Ode to a Sister-in-Law

Ode to a Sister-in-Law

Oh, masterful sister-in-law!
Gracious hostess, provider of playing cards
And massive slabs of barbecued meat.

How can I describe your many talents oh
Thou rememberer of all things directional?
Thou fair includer of friends olde and newe
For playing games and telling stories, embarrassing
And non.

Sharer of refrigerator, camper, and picnic table.
How does one describe thy virtues, thou
Leader of overboard outhousing?

Thou guider of husband, however futile.

Thou listener of father-in-law, however eternal.

Thou director of sisters-in-law whose only desire is
To lighten your load and receive your praise?

We bless you and praise your name to the heights
As an anchor in the householde of Sir Ronald.
Let me ring out the words of our hearts.

You done good.

I DID IT!!!!

I'd like to express my sincere appreciation to everyone who attended "An Evening with Karen Wasoba."

I couldn't have asked for a better evening (dryer, maybe. And I give terrible driving directions...). It went pretty smoothly, and while I'm by no means a professional entertainer I like to think we had fun.

I was so tickled to see many familiar faces there last night. It meant a lot to me to be encouraged in this way. There were approximately 30 people in attendance and plenty of refreshments to go around.

Thank you so much to those folks who took care of the details such as delivering and setting up chairs, making sure the lighting was good, folks who brought decadently fabulous desserts, made coffee.

You don't know how much it blessed me to be helped like that.

Thanks, too, to my kids who jumped in and encouraged me by sitting up front and pretending (?) to be interested in my stories.

Don, too, was a great help. Too bad I spent most of the evening telling tales about him.

Wait.

They aren't tales if they're TRUE.

I really don't know how it went; I was so preoccupied with making sure I had my routine going I couldn't be sure if it was good or my dear audience was being nice.

I'll watch the video in the next few days. It will be difficult and I'll be irritated that no one told me my outfit didn't match.

But I have to admit I brought as much as I could to the evening.

I'm most likely not going to quit my day job, but taking the risk to do some stand-up comedy was thrilling for me.

Thanks again to everyone!

p.s. I woke up today with a fever and laryngitis. Maybe I overdid it.

Wedding Blessings

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share really quick how God worked His stuff in the planning of Kari's wedding.

There are a few things I do well; I can create and I can execute plans. But I can't do both of those things at the same time...

It used to bother me that I couldn't do everything to perfection. Believe me, I tried.
But there comes a time when you have to learn something reeaally important:

Delegate!

I've got some amazing friends who stepped in to contribute their talents to the festivities:
One extraordinary seamstress who not only made the bridesmaids dresses but also got me out of a jam (literally!) when the zipper on my dress broke,
An amazing baker who created the most delicious and beautiful cakes I've ever seen,
An excellent caterer, a horticulturist, and bridesmaids who know a thing or two about hair and make-up. One dear friend who was a one-woman support system making sure everything could happen in the first place...

Everything fell into place (or fell apart) as it was meant to and the ceremony and reception went off almost without a hitch.
I want to make sure I thank everyone who made my daughter's wedding so special.
What a great team!
